Early Life:

Antony Starr was born on the 25th of October 1975, in Wellington, New Zealand. He had a normal upbringing in his home country and according to Starr, he was always active. He enjoyed spending his days surfing and practicing martial arts. Antony also stated that he did martial arts and karate for about eight years while growing up.  At the age of 15, he also had a job at a supermarket, but he left that shortly after he began his acting career. His first acting gig was in the popular series Xena: Warrior Princess which aired from 1995 to 2001. In this show, he played a minor role and the production of the series largely took place in his native New Zealand which helped him land some work. Later on, when Antony was 21 years old he guest-starred again on Xena as the biblical character David for an episode titled The Giant Killer. Around this time his co-star Lucy Lawless tried to be encouraging about his skills. Career:

In 2001 Antony was cast in the television series Mercy Peak for the recurring role of Todd Van der Velter, a guest role he maintained throughout the series’s three seasons. He also snagged the character in the soap opera Shortland Street in which he appeared as Stratford Wilson for several weeks. However, Antony declared that he didn’t like the quick pace of the series and throughout the performance suffered due to it.  In 2004 Antony made his film debut with the role of Gareth in the New Zealand film In My Father’s Den. But he didn’t have small but notable roles in widely released movies including 2004s Without a Paddle, and 2005s The World’s Fastest Indian.  Starr played Billy Newwood the Fairless friend of Jerry, Seth Green, and Tom Dax, among others in the film Without a Padel.  The 2005s film The World’s Fastest Indian is a bio movie about the New Zealand speed bike racer Burt Munro, who’s played by A-lister Anthony Hopkins. Despite Starr not having a major role, he enjoyed working around Hopkins.  While Antony was appearing in several New Zealand TV series around this time it was in 2005 however with the crime drama titled Outrageous Fortune in which Starr earned overnight success in his native country. This series was about a crime family trying to go straight and Antony portrayed a dual character of twin brothers Jethro West and Van West, the first one is an educated businessman and the second is a scattered criminal. During the production of the show Outrageous Fortune, Starr juggled filming in a 2006 film called No. 2 and also acted on a collaborative short movie with some friends.
